La Pedrera: Community Reinsertion

Team: Sebastian Escobar, Maria Alejandra Valbuena, Santiago Ramirez, Eduardo Maldonado, Antonio Reyes

This is a project that was carried out jointly between the Pontifical Javeriana University and the Ibero-American University of Mexico City. The topic raised to develop was "challenges and opportunities of informal settlements," so the area of intervention determined was "San Isidro Patios,"  a sector belonging to the “town” of Chapinero located in the city of Bogota in the eastern hills, next to the road that connects with the municipality of La Calera.

The work lasted two weeks, the first of which focused on the analysis and diagnosis of the sector, while the second proposes to make a project that responds to these situations. Therefore, it should be made clear that the project to be shown below is intended as a possible approximation of what can be a preliminary project.

The methodology used was social cartography, where what is posed is to work with the local people themselves and, through a series of questions, understand how they perceive their territory through a plane that represents the places of greatest interest, areas of insecurity, and public space, among many other aspects, resulting in a way of approaching and responding to the place based on the population’s needs.
